Game Brings Money Gang To The Drew League

Dont get it confused... Despite its MAMMOTH success last summer, the Drew League has been around for quite some time, my friend. The league was started in 1973 by Alvin Willis as an outlet for inner city men and women. The idea was to use basketball as a way to build relationships on the court that could be taken and applied off-court. At a time of bourgeoning gang violence and police brutality, this would be key to the city.

Game Brings Money Gang To The Drew League

he year is now 2012 and as the Drew League celebrates its 39th season, the need for positive relationship building amongst the youth still exists - even more so now. Gangs have multiplied in number since 1973 but so has the number of participants in the league. The Drew League started with 6 teams in 1973 and has grown to 28 this year.

Under the direction of Dino Smiley, the Drew League now boasts an "invitation only" tournament that has seen the likes of Paul Pierce, Trevor Ariza, Demar Derozen, Cuttino Mobley, Byron Scott, Greg Anthony, Micheal Cooper, Ricky Davis, Brandon Jennings, James Harden, and Baron Davis to name a few. Even Carmello Anthony, Kevin Durant, Lebron James and Kobe Bryant have graced the Drew League hardwood. Drew League participation is not just limited to college and pro stars. Entertainment giants also come out to display their basketball skills at the Drew.

Compton emcee, Game, made his Drew League debut last year. His Go HAM squad was a star-studded one. Cedric Ceballos, Shannon Brown, Demar Derozen, Ron Artest and Steve Blake all played for Go HAM. Although they held it down and were the crowd favorites, Go HAM was unable to make the playoffs.

ame is back in 2012 with 2 squads... California Republic and his Money Gang squad. What tricks does game have to pull out his sleeve this year...? That remains to be told but Game's contact list runs deep. We'll see. All we know is that we will be on deck for practices, locker room pep talks and game day action.
